Why Partify checks more than the code
A manufacturer paint code is an essential starting point, but the same code can have multiple factory variants. Differences in production date, assembly plant, paint line, supplier, application process and aging can affect how the finished color appears.
When you order touch-up paint or a painted replacement part, Partify uses your VIN or license plate to identify the available production details for your specific vehicle. Our team can use information such as when the vehicle was built, where it was assembled and which factory paint system was associated with it to select the most accurate option available.
This added verification helps reduce guesswork. It is especially important for metallic, pearl and multi-stage finishes, where small differences in pigment, flake orientation or application can be noticeable under changing light.
Check the vehicle first
Paint-code labels appear in different locations depending on the manufacturer, model and year.
Check the label on the door jamb, door pillar or edge of the driver’s door.
Look inside the glove-box door or within the center-console compartment.
Inspect the trunk floor, side panel, spare-tire cover or wheel well.
Check the radiator support, firewall, strut tower or inner fender.
Can’t find the label? Use the $1.99 VIN or license-plate lookup above.
Paint code lookup FAQ
Answers to common questions about VINs, license plates and factory automotive paint codes.
A VIN identifies the vehicle and its original factory configuration. Partify’s paint experts use the available vehicle and production data to determine the corresponding manufacturer paint code and narrow possible variants.
In many cases, a license plate and its issuing state or province can identify the associated vehicle. If the available plate data is not sufficient, Partify may request the 17-character VIN.
No. A marketing color name may be reused or may describe several formulations. The manufacturer paint code is a more specific identifier for the factory finish, although one paint code can still have multiple variants.
Vehicles using the same paint code may have been produced at different times, factories or paint lines. Supplier changes and application conditions can also create subtle differences, which is why Partify reviews the vehicle’s production information when it is available.
Partify selects the most accurate option supported by the available factory data. Existing paint can change over time because of sunlight, weather, previous repairs and surface condition, so blending or professional refinishing may be needed when an invisible transition is required.
